I ordered several of these tools and tried one today at an auto wreckers. The window breaker shattered the rear window of a smashed up car they had in the rear lot. The guy who I spoke to there was amazed that it worked!

WHY YOU NEED IT

When the door will not open.

Four times a side window is the only way out, or in.

Water

Your best chance to get out is the first minute, while the car still floats. The doors are very hard to open against the water.

University of Manitoba, Giesbrecht, 2016

Belt off, press the tip to a side window, get out before the water reaches the window.

Car fire

Electronic doors may not work in a fire. In electric car fire tests, toxic gases reached harmful levels within minutes of smoke entering the cabin.

US Fire Administration; Rappsilber et al., Fire Safety Journal, 2026

No power needed. A firm press breaks a tempered side window.

Post-crash entrapment

In a UK study, 11% of seriously injured crash patients were trapped in the car.

Nutbeam et al., 2021

The blade cuts a belt that will not release. The tip opens a tempered side window.

Dog or child trapped

A parked car heats up fast. In the US, an average of 37 children a year die of heatstroke after being left in a vehicle.

National Safety Council, Injury Facts

From outside, a firm press on a tempered side window. Keep one in your bag as well as the car.

Cuts the seatbelt. Hook the belt into the fork and pull.

HOW THE SPRING WORKS

Push. Load. Strike.

Press the tip against the glass. The spring compresses, then fires the pin into one point. The spring does the work, so you need no swing and little strength.

The breaker end meets the glass.

HOW TO USE IT

  1. 01

Pull it from the holder. It sits within reach of the driver seat.

  2. 02

Press the tip into a corner of a side window. Keep pushing.

  3. 03

The spring fires and the glass shatters. Push the glass out.

  4. 04

Belt stuck? Hook it into the fork at the other end and pull.

A FAIR QUESTION

Why not just use the headrest?

Francisco, from the driver seat: the headrest post first, then the Safety Hammer.

A headrest can't break a car window.Some headrests don't come off.

The post needs a swing you don't have room for. The spring needs one press, from your seat.

COMPATIBILITY CHECK

Will it work on your car?

Type your car to see which windows are usually tempered.

Most cars have tempered side windows. Laminated glass does not break with any hand tool. The small print in a corner of your window tells you which.

  • Tempered, should break
  • Laminated, will not break
  • Check the label

Not sure? Read the small print in a bottom corner of the window and look for the word Tempered or Laminated. If it is not stated, lower the window an inch and look at the top edge: laminated glass shows a thin line through the middle. Still unsure? Ask the car or glass manufacturer.

Glass differs by trim, year, market and replacement glass, so the label on your window has the final word.

BEFORE YOU NEED IT

Test it yourself.

Every Hammer comes with a piece of tempered glass, so you can test it at home before you need it.

  • 01Open the box. Safety Hammer, car mount, practice glass and the quick guide.
  • 02Follow the quick guide. Hold the practice glass as shown and press the tip into it until the spring fires.
  • 03Now you know the feel. The spring resets. Mount the Hammer beside your seat, where your hand finds it without looking.

Each piece of practice glass breaks once. Want more? Add the optional 3-pack to your order.

I ordered several of these tools and tried one today at an auto wreckers. The window breaker shattered the rear window of a smashed up car they had in the rear lot. The guy who I spoke to there was amazed that it worked! Does the window breaker work as effectively on tinted windows of a vehicle too?

I've been a firefighter for 30 years and we had these in the fire academy. They have been around for decades. Called a center punch. Cool story though.

FAQ

Which windows can I use it on?

Tempered side windows, the type most cars use for the door windows. Not windshields, and not laminated glass, which no hand tool breaks. Look for the word Tempered or Laminated in the small print in a corner of the window, or use the checker as a guide.

Can I practice with it, and what is included?

Yes. Every box has the Safety Hammer, the car mount, practice glass and a quick guide. Break the practice glass once to learn the press. Each piece of practice glass breaks once; the optional 3-pack adds more.

Can I use it more than once?

Yes. The spring resets after each press, so if the first press does not break the glass, press again.

How many do I need?

Start with one per vehicle, mounted where the driver reaches it without looking. Whether a second one makes sense for the back seats depends on your car's layout; the quick guide covers placement.

Is this a subscription?

No. One-time purchase. No subscription.

Do I need a discount code?

No. The bundle price applies automatically in the cart. No code needed.

When will it arrive?

Estimated delivery is 5 to 7 business days for US orders. For other countries the estimate is shown at checkout. See the shipping policy.

Where should I mount it?

Beside the driver's seat, where your hand reaches without looking: the console side, the door pocket or the visor. Not the glovebox.

How do returns work?

Contact us within 30 days of receiving your order, even if you have tried it. You get a return label and instructions, and the Hammer's price is refunded within 10 business days of us receiving it. Full-price, sale and bundle orders included. Full refund policy.
